North Beach Strongly Supports The Central Subway

Our strong support for the extension of the Central Subway to North Beach continues. Last year, 89% supported the extension.

Our Complete Streets committee is focused on making sure the extension is a top priority for SFMTA and all officials.

More Information is Needed about a Possible Navigation Center

To help our Members get answers, we wrote a letter to Mayor Breed, Supervisor Peskin, and the The Department of Homelessness & Supportive Housing. From that letter and follow-up discussions, we learned that there are no longer plans for a Navigation Center at the Bay & Kearny site, and no other locations in all of District 3 are being considered.

I have lived in the neighborhood for 30 years and I have never seen North Beach in such bad shape. It is now a regular occurrence to see mentally ill homeless people screaming and acting out. It can be downright scary.

The Joe DiMaggio Playground makeover is excellent. The new library with its adjacent landscaping is good. The rent-a-bikes alongside the library on Lombard is good.

I’ve lived here in and off for over 40 years, it’s had its ups and downs, but you can’t beat the diversity, beauty, and genuine friendliness of the residents.

Narrow sidewalks throughout the neighborhood, safety concerns, and vacancies and difficulties for new businesses to open are not helping build a vibrant community. The Farmer’s Market is awesome though and has improved the quality of life here.
